I have shopped with CTS for a long time and have bought dozens of shirts and maybe thirty pairs of trousers over the years.
One of the things I like about CTS is the choice of fabrics and colours, and the consistency of fit. If I want a big baggy pair of cords I'll go for a Classic Fit; if I want to be more contemporary I'll buy chinos in a Slim Fit. I know that whatever I buy, a 34W and 30L will always fit me.
I ordered a pair of Ultimate Non-Iron Chinos in a 34W 30L Slim Fit, and was most surprised when I tried them on that they were an extra slim fit, not what I'd expected.
A very helpful person on the phone told me that in certain chino lines the slim fit was now basically an extra slim fit. I asked if I bought a classic fit it would be like the normal slim fit, but she couldn't say.
CTS, you seem to be forgetting that not all your customers are young men in Sales. I'm a professional of 54 and like to look stylish. My dad is 84 and buys your cords and shirts.
If I want 100% cotton chinos I now have only a choice of more cheaply constructed trousers in tan or navy. If I want more colour choice I'd have to pay more and buy trousers with elastane in them, which I don't want, or need, and which are not good for the environment.
Charles Tyrwhitt, are you losing site of your loyal customers?
Response from Charles Tyrwhitt:
We certainly appreciate your very in-depth comments, which will absolutely be taken on board. In respect to our chinos and trousers, we updated the styling on these a little while ago now - around 18 months or so from memory - so they may well fit different to pairs purchased prior to that, even in the same fit. This change was made on the back of substantial customer feedback, which detailed how the trousers just weren't up to scratch like our fantastic shirts.
I'm sorry if the fit of this particular pair hasn't been suitable for you, which is a real shame. There is more than just the fit or size to take into account now, but the style also - some are more modern/tapered, while others are more relaxed and casual.
